Association for Preservation Technology [APT] conference – Miami, FL

Echem Consultants will be exhibiting at the upcoming Association for Preservation Technology [APT] conference in Miami, FL from Nov. 19th – 23rd.

Located between the Everglades swamp and the Atlantic Ocean, the dynamic port city of Miami is the setting for the 2019 APT Conference. Miami is a uniquely subtropical and diverse locale where Spanish, French and Portuguese language is as prevalent as English. Engaging sessions, workshops and a symposium will delve into the most pressing issues affecting 21st century preservation and conservation.

2019 Conference Themes Include:

  •  Effects of Climate Change in Warm Weather Coastal Regions
  •  Sustainability and Conservation of Built Heritage in the Americas
  •  Conservation of modern and post-modern heritage
  •  Diversity, Population Change, and Gentrification in the Preservation Dialogue

Exhibit hall hours are from 6:30pm to 9:30pm on Nov. 21st and then from 7:00am to 3:00pm on Nov. 22nd. Echem will be located at booth #5. Echem’s Principal owner, Gina Crevello, is actively involved in APT’s fundraising and planning committees and is proud to be a bronze level sponsor for the conference.

Echem Consultants will be presenting Concrete Material Degradation in Tropical and Urban Climates” on Nov. 23rd from 1:30pm to 3:00pm in the Brickell room.

The presentation will focus on climatic patterns in urban and tropical environments which can cause vast ranges in material degradation of reinforced concrete structures. Increases in unusual weather activity, storm surges and increases in temperatures are impacting the rates of corrosion material kinetics. This presentation will review deterioration modeling that is anticipated to occur in relation to reinforced concrete material degradation and will discuss options for preventative repair to existing and current landmark structures. Case studies and hypothetical models will be used to illustrate increased material degradation activity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how temperature and environmental changes impact reinforced concrete corrosion
  • Identify deterioration models that can assist in understanding corrosion performance
  • Understand current test methods required for for inputs in durability models
  • Identify appropriate monitoring methods for long-term performance and long-term repair solutions for concrete structures
